Kearney Fire & Rescue Protection District, Kearney, MO

102

102 is a 1957 Ford Chassis with a 1942 Dodge fire body. The truck was built by Liberty Fire Department in 1958. The body came off of a surplus World War 2 fire engine. It is speculated that the truck served in Europe during the war.

In 1960 the city of Kearney purchased the truck from Liberty. The truck served Kearney until 1990. It served as the only engine until 1967 when the first new engine was purchased. It served as the primary rural truck until 1981 when a 3rd engine was added to the fleet. It remained in service until another new engine was purchased in 1990.

In June of 1990 it was sold to the Tina Fire Department, which was eventually absorbed into the North Central Carroll County Fire District. It served there for about 10 years before being retired. It sat around for a couple of years and performed some watering tasks in the village before they decided to sell it. Assistant Chief Washam purchased it and it was driven home.

It is in original condition except for repainting over the years. We hope to give it a full cosmetic restoration in the future

Last mission in Kearney before being sold to Tina. Carrying first fire chief Red Pratt to his final resting place in June 1990.
